Exercise can help control blood cholesterol,
diabetes and weight as well as help to lower
blood pressure and cardiovascular risk.
Activity needs to be of moderate intensity but does not need to be
vigorous to be beneficial. The National Heart Foundation recommends
that every adult should undertake moderate physical activity for at least
30 minutes on most days of the week.
The options for mild to moderate activities are almost limitless: walking,
biking, swimming, hiking, rollerblading, golf, dancing, mowing the lawn
or even vacuuming!
Physical inactivity is second to smoking as a preventable cause of poor
health.
